What is a selling plan?
A selling plan is Shopify's definition of how a product is sold on a recurring basis — a cadence plus a discount — and how WallaB.AI builds and syncs them.
A selling plan is Shopify's term for the definition of how a product is sold on a recurring basis: a delivery and billing cadence plus any subscription discount, attached to the product variants it applies to. It is the offer a shopper sees on the product page — "every month, save 10%" — not any one customer's subscription.
Selling plan vs. subscription contract
The selling plan is the template; a subscription contract is one customer's live instance of it. Editing a plan changes what new shoppers can buy; it does not silently rewrite existing contracts.
How WallaB.AI works with selling plans
- The plan wizard builds them: a cadence, a discount, and optional advanced pricing, with a live storefront preview.
- A plan can offer several frequencies, and shoppers on a multi-frequency plan can change their own cadence from the portal.
- The storefront plan picker is a theme block that renders the plan's options next to a one-time purchase option, with prices pulled from Shopify so the price shown is the price charged.
- Reinstalling keeps your plans. Selling plans WallaB.AI created stay on the storefront and are adopted back on reconnect, with their subscribers re-linked. Purchase options created by another app, or by hand in Shopify, are never touched.
Advanced pricing composes on top of the plan discount — cycle-indexed intro tiers and quantity tiers — covered in What is subscribe and save? and set up in Plans & pricing wizard.
