What is subscribe and save?

Subscribe and save is a discount offered in exchange for a recurring delivery — and how WallaB.AI shapes it with intro tiers, quantity tiers, and a fixed composition order.

Subscribe and save is the standard subscription offer on a product page: the same item at a lower price in exchange for a recurring delivery. The shopper trades commitment for a discount; the merchant trades margin for predictable demand.

How the offer is built

A subscribe-and-save offer is a selling plan — a cadence plus a discount — attached to the variants it applies to. On the storefront it appears next to a one-time purchase option so the shopper can compare the two prices directly, which is the whole point of the format.

Beyond a flat percentage

WallaB.AI supports two ways to shape the discount further, both applied at charge time rather than baked into a fixed price:

  • Cycle-indexed intro tiers change the discount as a subscription ages — a deeper discount for the first few cycles, then the standard rate from a chosen cycle onward.
  • Quantity tiers discount by how much is ordered per cycle. When the total quantity reaches a tier's minimum, the tier applies a percentage off, a fixed amount off, or a fixed price per unit that replaces the per-cycle amount entirely. Presets cover the familiar ladders.

Discounts compose in a fixed order: the cycle tier or plan discount first, then the quantity tier, then any win-back discount on the result. A concierge discount replaces the active one rather than stacking on it, so a subscription can never accumulate save offers past the merchant's cap — see What are retention guardrails?.

Honesty in the storefront

The price shown in the plan picker is pulled from Shopify, so it is exactly what the shopper is charged at checkout, and the same engine prices the renewals. Set it all up in Plans & pricing wizard.
